Guys
Looks like the Overlander is going to a new owner.
Just canvassing for suggestions.
Criteria:
Has to be able to comfortable and legally tow at least 2500kg. Either 4x4 or lockable rear diff. Alloy tray (preffered) or ute back. NOT diesel (too dear to run compared to LPG). Air, steer, cruise, overdrive. Basically able to effortlessly drive 500kM. Single cab or extra cab. Unmodified, unmolested ie not stuffed with eg modified exhaust. Decent legroom (Im 6'5"). Under $35,000.
Only 2 x vehicles that I can think of are a 1993 on Chev/GMC Silverado/Sierra K2500HD or a Holden Cross8.
I'm still not sure about the Cross8 as despite claims that it's a lot stronger i'm still wary of the 4L65-E transmission. I've found some nice VZ examples (post 4/05) with low kM for around $30k though. I'm having all sorts of troubles finding an unmodified post 1993 K2500 HD. These run an injected 350 and 4L80-E box (4spd TH400). The earlier examples had a TH700R-4 thus I don't want one. An earlier 454 example would be OK though as they had a TH400, but i can't find one of these anywhere either. And importing one is now out of the question as anything later than 1988 costs about $25k to convert. Even considered an F250 but they never imported a 4x4 Petrol single cab. And I've sat in a Landcruiser and the legroom is useless, plus they are too dear.

Hi Byron.
I know it's a F@#d, but one vehicle that fits those critia is the RTV version of the BA Falcon Ute or One-Tonner. You specified either 4x4 or a 'lockable rear diff'. These are basically a standard 2WD Falcon Ute chassis with raised heavy duty |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

how about the Holden Suburban? or is that a slappable suggestion? It fits most of your criteria, and any warranty issues should have well and truly sorted by now, and theyre relatively cheap ...

Thanks Guys.
I'd have an F250 but not a Falcon. It'd just not be right. Plus the towing capability is questionable. Can you get an RTV V8? Considered buying a Suburban but it's not a ute. Worth cosidering though, but the ute version is what I really w |

Holden sold GMC's wagons as Suburbans, and as far as I know they are also called Suburbans in the states. The ones I think you are referring to are called either GMC Sierras or Chev Silverados in the 1990's. The model designation is C/K (C=2WD, K=4WD). RTV Falcons are available with V8s but Im not sure if the V8a can be converted to LPG. What about a standard 2WD Commodore ute or Crewman plus the extra $500 or so to convert the diff to an electric locker?
