I've seen a few people get hammered on forums for using wheel spacers to make Later model wheels fit on Pre AU Falcons. I've also seen on a few Mustang sites that this is common practice and quite acceptable in the States. What is the reasoning or pro's and cons of them. I'm not planning on doing it, I'm just curious.

Well they are illegal because they cause the nuts to clamp the wheels with far less thread & can also push the wheel out so that it's centre bore is no longer located on the hub spigot.

You can get adapters that bolt onto your hub & have separate st

the main problem with fitting wheel spacers is you are changing the offset off the wheel in relation to your wheel bearings, this causes your bearings to wear out prematurely.Apart from that you are changing the steering geometry which may cause various h

Johnny,
The AU Falcons have a lot more positive offset (backspacing) than earlier Falcons. Using spacers/hub adapters brings the AU wheels back to the correct spot in relation to your wheel bearings when fitted to earlier Falcons so wheel bearing wear

Thanks Jim, The adapters like the ones in the link are the ones I'm thinking of. I've seen a heap of early Mustangs with late model wheels running this sort of adapters which is very similar to the Pre AU to Post AU thing here.
