Hi all, try and keep it short but it is confusing. What I have is a HJ Van. I have rebuilt a spare motor from a HQ Statesman to put in the van. Looking at the compliance plate of the Van (built 1/75) the ADR numbers dont include 26/27 which is the Emission Control Regs. As far as I have read the emission stuff didn't start until 7/76..but there was a canister in the Van but nothing hooked up, the fuel vapour hose stopped as soon as it passed the firewall area, one port had a stopper on it and the third hung down like the water overflow.
The HQ Statesman had no canister on it. I know the the later controls for emission apply if an older motor is put in but what has me puzzled is, due to the lack of ADR 26/27 I should'nt need a canister. Is this right?? I live in NSW.
The Holden manuals I have do talk about a canister for HQ's and this is what is confusing me. Also being a van I could not see any vapour outlet hose from the tank.
Open for ideas please.

ADR 26 was introduced 1/72 and ADR 27 was introduced 1/74, so I have no idea why they are not on your van, is it possible that an early HQ plate has been fitted by someone? (as I sit here I cant remember if the ADR plat has the year on it or not) Any how |

Yeah, it's all too confusing. The compliance plate has year of manufacture on it and I don't want to take the van down to the blue slip bloke without the canister and have him tell me I need it and then adds to the suspicions of when I can't hook it up p |

Hi Guys.
Yes, there are a few anomolies with ADRs and canisters in the HQ/HJ series.
Firstly, i've noticed that utes & vans were treated differently to sedans & wagons with ADRs, I think commercial vehicles didn't have to comply until a later date f |

Thanx Dr Terry.
It's shed a bit of light on the matter. In NSW you now have to take an engine replacement to a Blue Slip fella to verify numbers not the RTA so I thought if he (or she) notices the canister missing then I will wack the original back |

For the fun of it all, I believe the HJ should have (1) the crankcase vent hose from the front RHS rocker cover (if V8) to the air cleaner. (2) An aircleaner that has the heater flap. (3) LHS manifold with a heater bracket. (4) The al-foil hose from the L

G'day trubluhq,
When I bought the van it had an aftermarket crome sports air filter which would render your standard suggestions invalid, but thanx for the advice.
Other info is apart from the sports filter, have extractors and when bought it was |
