Can some one tell was the chrome strip on the boot always painted in red or were some just polished? The one I have has no traces of red paint and I have noticed that some on ebay aren't painted.

Well they are actually anodised aluminium, which is even worse for holding paint.

They were there to represent tail lighs, yet to see silver tail light lenses, well back then anyway.

As I said they represent fake tail lights, and tail lights are red so yes they were all painted. Holden even had trouble with them new, they changed the formula for the paint as they were fixing them under warranty, but the new formula also faded. Most we

Before you put on the red paint to the Aluminium, go to the hard ware and buy some Copper sulphide powder mix it and apply it to the area you want to paint and you should have a better surface to adhere to, sort of like a chromate conversion
