Me again this time I need to know about pistons whats the standard size of the 253 engines pistons holes in the block so I can measure to see if I have a standard block or not and to see what size pistons I need. Lets just say the bore has been widened would I still use the standard pistons and then use wider rings to take up the gap or is wider pistons required.

3.625", same as a 202 or 186. If the engine is bored oversize you need oversize pistons and rings. Normally + 0.030", 0.040" or 0.060"

Boom, I dont think byron is referring to the pistons being identical, rather that the diameter of the piston is the same for reference purposes.
Does anyone make a decent 253 piston? It may be relevant to Fred.

Yes I could have been clearer. Phill clarified the point anyway.

Speaking of pistons does anyone know if a 253 block can be bored to hold 308 pistons? Or can a 253 become a 308??
