A question for those with suspension knowledge...

I have an 18 month old car that has been diagnosed with a leaky shocky seal on one side. The warranty will cover a replacement, which is being organised. However, they are only going to replace one, and are telling me that this is the standard process.

This will mean I'll have one shocky with 30,000km on it, and another that's brand new. Is it standard safe process to replace them together, and am I being duped to make the warranty costs cheaper? Or is it fine to replace one shocky from a pair without replacing the other at the same time?

Id ask them to fit a matching new shocker to the other side also and they wear the labour costs (you pick up the part cost), and then ask to keep the good 30,000km one as a spare!

But why replace a shockie that is functioning properly?

I understand that the new shockie might be slightly stiffer than the other and in theory this could cause the car to lean more on (say) a left turn than a right turn. But surely the sway bar evens
