Anyone like to suggest the best way to get 12V to my Pertronics flamethrower coil ? I am aware I have to bypass the resistance wire but I was wondering what the simplest option might be rather than tracking back to the ignition switch and running a bigger wire in parallel. I don't really want to cut the resistance wire in case for some bizarre reason I go back to points. I have a voltage regulator because I have an older style alternator - ? run a wire from that to coil. I tried a search on this site but only got Holden answers.

the last thing you should do is connect anything in parallel unless they're the same resistance otherwise things go boom. Pls note this is from experience.

G'day nuub1, get yourself an 87a relay readily available at any spare parts retailer and run your existing coil positive wire(this is the resistance wire you speak of) to pin 85 then connect an earth wire to pin 86 run a wire from your battery positive

Christoss - I have drawn myself a diagram and wonder if it should be Pin 87 [rather than Pin 87a] to the coil. I may have it wrong but when power comes into Pin 85 it closes the relay to allow input from Pin 30 thru to output Pin 87. Pin 87a does the oppo |

check what brand relay you are using but usually when the relay has no power to pin 85 or 86 (whatever polarity) pins 30 and 87 have continuity and then when the relay receives a signal to pins 85/86 the relay will join pins 30 and 87a.

The relay I have does exactly the opposite to what you described but it doesn't matter - I understand the concept now and the relay I have will work fine. Thanks again.
