A theory if I ring my local RTA/Vicroads and say "Just bought this unregisterd holden want to do a check". I have no rego numbers, no engine numbers just some tag and firewall numbers. I quote all the numbers and they tell me sorry no information coming up in relation to those numbers. I am confused because I was under the impression if you had a firewall number you could match them to the tags and sleep a little easier knowing you bought a "real" GTS. They tell me without a engine number or rego number the firewall number does not mean a thing and if needed they will issue the car with a new VIN number. Please someone tell why is a firewall number so important if your loacl RTA/Vicroads dont think it is.

This is because for a long time Vic RTA only used engine number for rego, they have since transfered over to chassis number. This number has othing to do wheather it is a GTS or not, only the tags tell you that and thr RTA has NEVER recorded the tag info

This is why in Vic if you can not provide a previous registration number/engine number. It is hard to register the car with out some stuffing around.
They will require a Statutory declaration to state the car is not stolen to the best of your knowledge a
