Hi everyone, Today we picked up a fully rebuilt pre pollution 253 Holden
engine for $500 the lady showed us receipts for the rebuild that was done 10 years ago but it was never started afterwards just turned over a couple of times during that period. He had plugged up all the holes in the engine and filled it to the top with new unused oil.

Now my question is will the rings be alright our will they need replacing or would the engine need pulling down at all, maybe just replace all the gaskets. We took the heads off this afternoon and yes its all fresh looking, we bought a good rattle gun recently worth every dollar.Cheerio Fred.

hi ..what do you mean? 'filled to the top with oil'usually you would take off the rocker covers and cover the valve stem seals with oil and put some in the piston chambers ,(just a little).turn it over by hand with the spark plugs out,, then i would leave

Also if the heads are still off try putting some cam lube on the lobes under the lifters.
