I have just taken out the 253 that was in my WB one tonner, then egine bay is in need of a respray. The engine was runnning great before i took it out, it is covered in grime/dirt and looks old and ready for retirement.

The engine is setup for dual fuel and running great, but would it be worth rebuilding?? I am not sure what to do here. I was thinking I would clean it up get rid of the grease/grime/dirt and add some paint, replace the obvious stuff like leads, pugs and check for obvious leaks and replace gaskets/seals as required. Any suggestions. Note: There was no sign of blue/balck smoke when operating.

I am not planning on changing the engine for another i.e 308.

Appreciate some feedback.

Cheers

Just clean it, maybe pull it apart to check the bore and bearing wear, and replace all the gaskets. Id also check the welsch plugs and if 1 or 2 look like theyre leaking replace them all.

Also I would recondition the heads with a clean up and new valve

You only have to be in front at the end of the race.

Per James.

(1) REPLACE ALL WELSH PLUGS - ALL ! Put in new Brass ones...easy job to do.
(2) Maybe remove the heads and check for valve wear. You can look at bores at that stage. Maybe get some valve work done.
(3) Check the timing chain. replace as ne
