Some friends of ours had a dismantled 253 that they were going to rebuild before the floods, now when they unpacked after the flood most of the parts that where in water filled tins were dumped. The parts they do have are the block, 2 heads, 1 cam, 1 crank shaft which were all rebuild 6 months ago so my question is are all the other parts available as a kit purchase or would buying a second hand motor and using the internal parts be suitable, if a kit can be purchased where would one go.

253s wont work with the later VN heads, the valves hit the top of the bore. this is also the case with L34 sized valves (they are exactly the same)
The only way to do it is to notch the top of the bore.
