All, I am after some help for a fellow enthusiast. His car is a 12/71 plated HQ GTS 350 and is painted in a 1972 colour - Royal Purple. The Monaro book says this would be possible and more than likely for such a late build car, but my question is how early before a new colour range start could it be. Is a November build car a possibilty or is that stretching things too far? I have asked Ben Stewart about the car and he informed me that whilst possible, the norm was for an earlier colour range to carry over for a period into the new year. He stressed that this didn't happen at model changeover time though - in this case the new colours were introduced on the final build cars in the previous model.

Thanks for reading.

Our build years did follow the GM system from the US for some time, and the new year model starts in August. Therefore, for example, if a car rolled down the line on July 31st 1970, it was plated on the VIN and on the "protect o plate"(if the car was fitte

As the HQ was an extended model run over a painfully long timeframe, updates were required to keep it attractive. As the Torana ran at the same time but with different model series changes it became convenient to change the HQ colours when a new Torana ap

Ben and I found some unusual things with colours. As parts catalogue pointed out they changed at new "other model" introduction. So LC come in HT, HG and HQ colours. HZ come in VB colours etc.

As the HQ spanned so many years they come in LC, LJ, LH col

Hi classic oz wreck, I mentioned 7/71 as I wanted to relate to the release time of the cars. You are correct in saying that a 6/71 build car exists along with the very first regular production examples plated 5/71. Both the 5/71 and 6/71 cars feature the
