Hi,
Have a 1975 XB Falcon, running a 250-2V pre x-flow six with the three speed column change. I'm wanting to replace the three speed with a four on the floor, I'm in the stage of getting a Top Loader box for it which has a hurst shifter attached to the side of it.
Now I know the input shaft on a 4-speed is 1.1/16" where the 3-speed ones are only 15/16", so I'll need a new clutch plate. Will a 4-speed top loader box bolt up to the 3-speed bell housing or will I need to drill & tap some new holes in the hsg? I've heard that the centre hole on a 3-speed bell hsg is smaller than that of a 4-speed one too. Also the XB has a bench seat in it, will there be any clearence issues with the lever?
Intersted if anyone has done this conversion before, no doubt it would have been done.
Thanks.

All that you say is true except that only the big block toploaders had the larger input shaft.

3 of the 4 gearbox to bell housing bolts are in the same place but one of the uppers is further out and I don't think that there is enough metal there to

As Jim mentioned, you'll need to cut a hole in the floor and fit the floor hump. Depending on which hurst shifter you have will depend on how much additional trimming of the floor is required, If its an indy, you may need a bit of cutting, as these sit
