I have a query re the Dulux paint code system I understand that 1xxxx is a flat colour 2xxxx is a met, what are 3xxxx int? and 4xxxx ext trim? I thought I had seen a post explaining this here somewhere but I havent been able to find it.

1x would be solid not flat i think you mean
3x is probably flat if it is specified as interior or did you put that?
4x dunno, maybe semigloss

or are you talking about Groups

eg group 3 or group 4? thats where you have red in the higher/more expens

In commodores:
3 codes are all the semi-gloss colours used on things like window blackouts, door handles on VN-VS, lower sills on VN etc.
4 codes are used for bumpers in plastic-bumpered VK onwards, as well as wheels, so its probably the specific type o

Thanks for the replies, a follow up question. Why are there so many colours that have 2 or more variations with the same code some up to 4.

Wait till you start painting cars for a living, its a nightmare. Variations are caused by differing paint mix from the paint manufacturer at the production line end , some cars can have up to 8 variants. Most cars now are painted in water based base coats
