Hi Ive recently brought a 89 V6 commodore. It has been getting hot. I found out it is because the fan is not turning on. I've replaced both of the coolant temperature sensors and it is still doing it. I've also checked the relay and two fuses which are fine and also found that the fan still works when connected straight to the battery. I've wriggled and cleaned the terminals on the sensor and fan plugs. Can't work out what else it could be? If all else fails I was going to hook fan up to accessory power (if I had a switch I'd forget to turn it on).
The gauge doesn't seem to read as hot as it should (once engine is turned off when hot it boils or bubbles yet temp on gauge is below half way).
I can't use the self diagnosis on the car either, can't seem to find the plug! I just sold my other VN and have used the plug on that several times (because it was a ****box) so know where it should be.
Any help would be very much appreciated. I have a lot of bad luck buying commodores, think this will be my last one

Check the earth connections to the left of the battery on the inner guard. Loosen the bolt and tighten it up again might be enough?

Does the fan work with the A/C compressor clutch? it should and this would eliminate half of your wiring as a suspect.

thanks. Ive got fan going, but it still has water bubble and overflow in the tank when I turn engine off. it seems fine while driving and gauge reads normal temp. It doesnt appear to be sucking in hoses or anything. It has no A/C on car either
