Gday all I've got a rolling 71 HG kingswood sedan with factory floor shift hole and some out of place looking hump on the passengers side of the trans tunnel. Tag reads: HG 80469 Body No.------m Trim 1801 11E Paint 568-12206 Skinny tag reads: 80469 C J 265532 Would this be a particulary rare car to restore? Would there be many kingswoods with this combo? Is it a factory V8? Any info appreciated. Cheers Stephen [email protected] |

Hi Stephen.
It sounds like that car was originally an HG V8 4-speed Kingswood sedan. We have no way of knowing if it was a 253 or 308, but it would have had a Saginaw gearbox.
The sixth character of the VIN should be a G, not a C.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Hi Dr Terry
Yes the 6th character is G its just a little hard to read the tag.
Would it be worth restoring.

Terry,
If it was a 308, being a 4 speed, it would also have the salisbury hump. So if there is a hump in the leading edge of the fuel tank it was a 308, if not a 253.
Know of a couple of 308 4 speed Kingswoods, one red with vinyl roof.
this one i

If it was a 308 4spd it may also have radius rod bracket holes inside the rear inner guards. It probably would have 6" spare wheel brackets too. The only 308 4spd HT/HG Kingswod sedan I have ever heard of had all this. It was a HT in black with red trim.

You only have to be in front at the end of the race. |

The salisbury hump is the only one you need to chase, it is located above the rear axle and can be seen from under the car. If the front edge of the tank, right above the differential, has a hump it is a 308, if not then 253.

Gday Warren
Ive put some pics in my oldholden shed could you have a look in the folder labelled Temporary Stuff and tell me what you think as it looks to me that it is slightly raised in front of the tank but my other kingswood looks the same .

Stephen Its definitely a Saginaw firewall and transmission tunnel. Its a bit hard to see the tank front edge in those photos. Here is a photo of one with the tank removed (ignore the banjo diff, its there to make the Monaro moveable): http://www.mo |
