I was reading an article not long ago about somebody boring out the water galleries of a 308 storked to 355 block to increase the cooling ability. Has anyone done this before, know of anyone who has done it, or what is involved??

never heard of it, wouldnt do it, shouldnt need it...
My 355 in a hj (hz block) makes 450+ and with some attention paid to radiator and fan (long story) it runs generally at 182f at cruise, will go 200f after a flogging, and no hotter in the traffic.

probably no one who expects an engine to live more than 5 minutes. you can raise the boiling point of the fluid to infinity, but your also destroying its ability to shed that heat using conventional means, it most definately is a two way street. typ Edited by user Friday, 13 February 2009 6:56:36 PM(UTC)

Agree. A 304/308 or one stroked to 350 should easily cool with a viscous fan, shroud and 3 row radiator. I personally like the 4 row version for a 350 cuber. I doubt the standard Holden 4 blade fan, 2 row radiator and no shroud would cool a 350 Holden in |

So Greenhj what i think you are saying is. by using the evans, the motor cant shed the heat as well using it. and the motor will run hoter?
I am just thinking if some one still has problems after the radiator setup and tune is right? i think a 350 chev

nothing will absorb/shed heat better than plain water, glycol and other additives raise the boiling point for sure, but it also reduces the thermal transfer efficiency of the liquid to do it. Id also suggest, that anything over about 230f for a period Edited by user Saturday, 14 February 2009 9:18:48 PM(UTC)
