just bought a 99 astra for my daughter, does anyone know what this was derived from? and what are the common problems? thanks

We had a 2000/2001 model and it seemed to be a bloody good little car. Only real issue with them is making sure the timing belt has been replaced. Originally they should have been done around 120k, but Holden issued a service bulletin drop

Hi johnperth. There are not really derived from anything, they come straight from Opel in Europe, where they are sold as the Opel Astra (& also the Vauxhall Astra in the UK). Ive repaired 3 different ones now that have dropped the cable off the rear door power window mechanisms. Seems that if youre putting the window up or down and the door is slammed, or the car hits a decent bump while its moving, its enough to pop the cabl |

Wish I had of known you know how to fix them Mick. We put the rear passenger window up in mine, put a couple of small clamps on the runners to hold it there, then disconnected the plug to the motor. Whoever owns the car now probably still cant work out

Thanks guys. I made sure she bought the one with manual windows as I hate electric ones. So no problems there. Have been in touch with the previous owners they have were a girl and her mother so know the history and its all good, they are checking their
