jag xj 12.. engine not firing have tried aero start and putting a bit of fuel down each cylinder only got a small cough! battery, firing order, spark plugs leads all good.. any thoughts? i know its not a ford or holden but someone should have an idea.

I'd have a look at the timing as a starting point. If it's only coughing with fuel down the hole it seems that this might be a good starting place (at this point I should point out that my only experience with Jags is nearly being run over by on

haha nice.. i have no experience with them either. just have to try and get it started while work is quiet. cheers for that i dont think we checked the timing.

easiest way is to roll up some dunny paper, and remove number 1 plug and jam the hole with dunny paper, bump crank the engine and the paper will shoot out on tdc compression stroke. check ya dizzy and align rotor button up with the corresponding number 1

before you start getting too complex do the simple things like check the coil, the condenser and points if any.
does sound a bit like a weak condenser. if you do replace the condenser do the points if any as well or they will die soon too.
