Why buy Australian made and/ or owned? 85% of the products in the average Australian grocery trolley are made by foreign owned companies. This results in $100 million a day going outside Australia. By comparison, in Japan, 98% of goods in supermarkets are owned by Japanese organisations. There are two key reasons to support Australian owned companies profits stay in Australia and jobs are created for Australians. If every Australian redirects $10 per week from foreign owned companies and foreign made products to Australian, Australia would save $4 billion per year and create 100,000 new jobs. (source: Ausbuy) Foreign ownership of Australian companies has doubled in the past decade. The money leaving Australia to foreign owners reached $12 billion in 1999. Well no, we are quite capable of sustaining ourselves. However, in this country we have 2 major players who due to volume have control over basically the whole food supply chain from grower to themselves as retailers. We now import much more food beca

I personally look at the label of all food I buy. If it's not made in Australia I don't buy it. I give products which are Australian Owned and Made preference. I refuse to eat imported products, especially those made in China. I went to buy some water cra |

I have no problem with buying coconuts from Fiji, cranberries from USA, starfruit from Cook Islands, cashews from Vietnam. That is what they do. But us buying any citrus fruit, stonefruit, bananas, grapes, most vegetables from overseas is just ludicrous. |

I don't not buy foreign food because it's not made in Australia. I simply don't trust their quality control and hygiene particularly anything to do with water. Obviously there is no choice with some products though.

Queanbeyan probably has less restaurants per food hygiene inspector than Canberra has so you should be better off there.
At least your maggots were cooked hopefully. Yuk!!

I guess when we hear stories like this from abroad we don't realise how good we have it here in the grand old land of Oz.
We do take a lot for granted here but I believe the main problem is the large Supermarket chains screwing the farmers that hard on |
