Very hard to see in this photo. My old HR had a what the original owner (1st owner) told me was a factory fitted speaker fader. You can just make it out above the fan control and below the radio.
This had the appearance of being a factory installation as it was a proper formed panel with recessed sides and about 5inches wide and a inch and half top to bottom with the correct wood grain pattern and chrome control knob.
This car was a showroom demo to show all the nasco and factory options that could be purchased when new.
Shame I didn't take more detailed photo's when I owned it.
The photo's are from the next owner who for some strange reason added the vinyl roof and LSD sticker to the door jam, but other then that it's how it was when I had it.
Photo also of the receipt of purchase from the original owner. (If any one knows the current new owner I can pass this on)
I have never seen this fader control before or after and wonder if anyone else has come across this fader in the HR model

To my knowledge there was no 'factory' radio fader for the HR (or any of these early cars).

This is where the terms 'factory-fitted' & factory-approved' are often confused.

There was a front/rear fader unit supplied as a 'factory-approved' Nasco accessory in kit form, which could be either dealer fitted (most common) or owner fitted (less common).

For HR & earlier (back to FB from memory) they were mounted on a small triangular mounting plate & had a black Bakelite knob. They were mounted with the plate horizontal under the dash near the handbrake, so it was almost totally hidden & appeared very different to yours.

I've seen many radio fitters make up other variations similar to yours (remember this was a very large industry in Australia in the 60s). Often they used a modified version of the radio blank (silver, black or timber-tone depending on model) & sometimes even fitted a Air Chief radio knob so it matched the radio & therefore looked very 'factory'.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Thanks Terry

The perplexing part is it looked so original and integrated to suit the car.

Defiantly not a half effort as it had it's own casting, chrome plating, faux woodgrain and printing etc.

I have to assume your right as I have never come across another the same.
