Hi all, the car in question is a 1998 Holden Suburban v8 petrol. Has been fitted with LPG. A few months ago it stopped running on petrol completely, RACQ came out and said the pump's dead. After pricing a new one (1000 bucks+), i dropped the tank out, (180L fuel tank that was half full-interesting!) and pulled out the pump. I noticed that the rubber hose that would be the discharge hose was off, i slipped it back on, put it all back together and away it went first go. Went good for a few months, and then it happened again. Pulled it all out, sure enough the hose had come off again. the hose had shrunk around the clamp and wasn't grabbing. I cut off the end half inch of hose, tightened up the clamp, and i mean tight, put it all together and now it will only run on petrol after starting on gas which the car does not like, 30 seconds+ of winding to get it to start, then change over to petrol and it will run like a clock. Has full power, doesn't seem restricted at all. Very frustrated as it is a big job. The only other thing that seemed out of the ordinary was a tiny little rubber hose in the pump body, wasn't attached to anything and i couldn't see anyfitting that might once have had a hose on it. I realise this car is uncommon to most but surely the fuel pump in the tank would be used on other makes so the theory would be the same. Is it possible that i overtightened the discharge hose and shrunk the outlet? Or this little hose is more important than i thought? Please help, i've just about had it with this car.
Cheers Damien
