Hi HQ 350, I noticed in your last Picture that the Muncie Console has a Hump at the side of it. Does yours have this, i'm interested to know. Thanks.

morsesworld our hq 350 is TBar so no hump other is column auto.
There would only be approx. 300 consuls with the hump made.

There were two types of "humped" consoles...early flat top one with seat belt pockets, and the later type with storage bin but no pockets. This was due to the later cars having inertia reel seatbelts with fixed stalks.

Is there a set period when the HQ consoles changed from Flat top to Bin type ? My Hq still has flat top and is 19/06/73 build ? Thanks Mark. |

As with many items in those days, stocks of the older ones were used up before the new one was fitted. This would varied from plant to plant. As Detective has said the later console was introduced because the little seatbelt bucket pockets were no longer required after the inertia reel belts with stalks were added. I'm sure that there are plenty of inertia reel cars (with stalks) that were factory-fitted with 'pocket' style console. Dr Terry |

The plain, round Muncie gear knob has the same "textured" feel and appearance as the console. The differing part numbers may be to do with having the gearshift pattern inlaid ?? Edited by user Sunday, 16 September 2018 2:47:03 PM(UTC)

Thanks, I'll need to try to find someone with an original gear knob to understand exactly what I'm chasing. I want everything on the car as close as I possibly can to original. The car I'm restoring is an extra special one and deserves to be as it was. Call me crazy but I love the challenge.

So trying to make a list of the rare HQ 350 specific stuff I need to look out for, I'm missing tailshaft back, including motor. Just the Aus stuff not the correct part number replacement stuff that I can get from the states. I have an 11QU block. So off the top of my head...
*Console hump (can cut it into repo console) *Radiator? *Tailshaft(debatable) *clutch linkages *shifter stick *gear knob *accelerator linkages? *carby correct part number
Anything else Aus specific?

coil =lucas/bosch
alternator = lucas/bosch
regulator = Lucas/bosch
waterpump = McKinnon
Clutch fan (A/C) = Eaton
power steering pump = A/C
this is some of the larger parts.
Lucas parts are usually on A/C hq 350's.
Coil is Lucas if sitting vertical,bosch horizontal.
there is a large number of smaller clip's that support plug leads and wiring that is also just HQ 350.

Well lucky it's not an air conditioned car I guess.
Anyone know more about the muncie gearbox before I go and waste a fortune on the wrong one?

The muncie g/box is from a big block car, fine spline input and the larger t400 output, The tailshaft uses the larger 1 tonner type uni's the diff has the larger flange to suit,They also have a specific gearbox crossmember and reverse light switch, do you have the steel floor hump?
