Hi All, I have a VH SS Group 2, and I am trying to get some documentation from HDT, but the VH doesn't have the HDT Build date tag ehich is required to get the documentation. How am I able to really know that my VH is a HDT Group 2?
I've tried getting a Brock Bible but cant find one to buy, just to check the numbers, so if anyone can help, that would be great!
TIA :)

If it doesn’t have a HDT build plate it is probably just a VH SS? Does it have the XV2 code and M21 on the body tag? |

TIA :) no build plate..?? probably just a plain VH SS (with either 4.2 or 5.0 engine) so what makes you think it is a Grp 2? rear spoiler? wind splitters? anythng else? |

Smitty, I thought the SS was 4.2 only? The way to get a 5.0L was to option it on a GroupIII? From what I remember the HDT Group1 SS was also a stock 4.2. The Group2 was a modified 4.2. Even the Group3 was only a modified 4.2L unless it was further optioned with the V5H 5.0L. If the 126kW L31 engine was optional on a straight SS does that mean you could option it on a Group1 or Group2, and if so did it get the same Group2 mods that the 4.2L did? Edit - just found the April 1983 SS sales brochure. Shows the standard VH SS with the stock 126kW 5.0L standard. There you go. Did that change for 1983? I don't think the the HDT build plates were around in the VH era, especially early builds.
The 'Brock Bible' will tell for sure.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Did that change for 1983? yep all that... ! coz VH was a mess with engines options want the 5.0?? get a std SS sedan or you had to go see HDT and get a Grp3 this thing... either version was a rocket ship, a good basis for a race car (and light!... no aircon listed as standard, you had to option it) the little 4.2? was available in ALL... std SS sedan grp1, Grp2 and Grp3 and finally, someone thought a WHITE version would be good too (just ignore all the brochures with red 'Chariots of Fire' on them) Edited by user Sunday, 30 April 2023 10:11:05 PM(UTC)

Looks like early build VH SS were red only and had 253 with 308 optional .A friend here in Blenheim has a 253 non-HDT SS. |

I know a dude who bought a New VH SS 4.2L M21, It was gutless, my mates stock VB 4.2L M20 would flog it easy ! bothe rant 3.08 diff ratio. I do not think that a 4.2L is a good combination with the M21 ratios ? you get way better take off times 1st 2ed and 3rd with a M20 Box ?
