Hi Guys maybe a stupid question as I'm new to this car stuff but if my car is sitting there idling for 5 mins or so with the radiator cap off then I turn the car off the water just pours out the radiator from like a pressure build up or something which I find strange because the cap was off.
Any ideas or reasons for this?

Engine still releasing heat to coolant but coolant not circulating due to water pump no longer turning results in the convulsions you mention.
Will be worse with head gasket or thermostat issues.
