Picked up 2 mint HK GTS 6 imch rims from a deceased estate. Both rims are spot welded and electic welded 11/68. Also both have yellow & green paint markings on the backs of the centres. What does the yellow and green refer too and do the 327 rims differ from a 6cyl via being welded from 2 processes ie spot welded and electric welded? Tia

They were all spotted from what I have seen. They were changed at some stage to both, but others will know more detail. I have an old memory it was after release due to wheel breakages. You won't find too many 6cyl cars with 6" rims, almost all HK only got them if you ordered (or GMH specified on stock order cars) D70 tyres or P50, P51 or P52 (185x14 local, Michelin or Pirelli) tyres. Also not available on ute or van. They were option codes:
PX4 & P26. D70 high Performance H Whitewall Tubeless. PX4 & N84. D70 high Performance H Redwall Tubeless. P50. Local 185x14. P51. Michelin XAS 185x14. P52. Pirelli 185x14.
PX4 is the tyre. P26 and N84 are the coloured bands. Both come with N66 wheels only.
There is a story online, I'd have to find it, about the guys who went racing in a HD X2. GMH told them not to race it as it'd break wheels. They told GMH we are racing it and if it breaks wheels it'll look bad for you. GMH supplied stronger wheels! Possibly welded and spotted?
There is an option N99 available across HK passenger. It is the standard ute and van wheel available on everything except GTS327. Those may well be welded and spotted but I believe they are only 5" rims.

All hk 6 inch rims are spot welded that ive ever seen but only some electric welded as well. I was told all the 327 rims had both but that may not be true. I had a pagewood picardy red 6 cyl 4 speed hkgts and it was a factory 6 inch wheel car so they do exist.

That’s what I said, they are all spot welded and at some stage they had both. As I said the D70 or 185x14 tyres were optional on Belmont, Kingswood, Premier, Monaro and GTS. But to get them you had to order a car, which was rare. Although it is also possible GMH built some for sale. |
