RE: THE FAN RESISTOR.

Mine packed it in a few weeks ago during 35 degrees afternoon sun....yes we can get heat in Adelaide during early October. Only had speeds 3 and 4.

Youll have to take off the wiper arms, unpick the clips at the top of the firewall that hold the full length plastic leaf guard on.

Then unscrew 2 screws on the black dome thing and pull out resistor and unplug connector.

As they say in the classics..... installation is a reversal of the removal procedure.

It takes a total of about 15 to 20 mins to do the whole job.

A new resistor will cost about $50, or you can go to the wreckers and buy a s/hand one. Make sure you can exchange it if it doesnt work, cos I went through 3 second hand ones before I got a good one. At $5 for the part, I was happy though.

its worth about a $1000-1500 and the wreck about $300-400 tops, my mate has a VN s pack with similar k`s and is very good on the inside and excellent on the out side , no caryard in Adelaide is willing to give more than a $1000 as a trade in.

thanks for replying cloudy.how long you been running 20/50 xld for?did you lose any power using 20/50?in my gregory,s manual it specifies 15/40,but because the v6 is based on the buick v6 which has been around since the 70s,shouldve holden specified a mineral oil instead?

Its probably safe to assume that in 1989 Holden figured everyone was using mineral oils.
Kays arent really a fair indication of engine wear. Your car could have 100K on it but be rattly as thanks to some nice fool who cooked it one day and wrecked the bores... You just dont know unless youve had the car since new.
You could run a thicker oil, wouldnt hurt, or rebuild the whole engine to stop the rattles.
But who could be assed?
