Purchased this in October 2004. Resto has taken longer than expected but you expect that. Looks good in photos but upon closer inspection there is a lot of work to do. These are pictures as it was purchased. Not sure how to turn these in to links. If someone could help that would be great. Thanks http://i65.photobucket.c...08/sandman/S3000001.jpg

Sandman was purchased with knackered gearbox. Aussie M21 who would have guessed it!! was just going to repair gearbox do a little tidy up and put it back on the road. But as I started to pull it apart one thing lead to another and you know how it is. A full shell of chassis resto is now going to take place. And the process was started. Following are some more as I purchased it photos. http://i65.photobucket.c...08/sandman/S3000017.jpg

Id tags say it is original sandman with 308 4 speed. As I pulled thing apart everything well most were all cleaned baged and tagged. For future reference. As there is no way I was going to remember where all the bolts were supposed to go and where they came from. more photos seats were cleaned up and painted with vinyl dye. gearbox was repaired cleaned and painted. Aircleaner back to bare meatal and painted with new decals from rare spares. Brake calipers also recieved a clean and new paint. Am now in the process of changing rear drums to disc. http://i65.photobucket.c...man/sandmanresto011.jpg

The process continues During the meantime NOS item have been purchased. Indicator lenses, new grill, brake master cylinder, GTS dash fascia, gts speedo and 4 pod gauges, electric window switches, radio and heater knobs and a few other bits and pieces. Doors were rusty cost more to repair than buying some good ones. So the search was on to find some rust free doors. Took a while but finally got some of a statesman with good still working electric windows. So these will be hooked up. Doors were taken back to bare metal inside and out by hand and a home sand blaster for the hard to get at places. These have been rust prepared and painted in Epoxy under coat for now. Front nose cone recieved the same treatment but I had to panelbeat a couple of little dings out. Some GTS rims were purchased blasted and painted in undercoat. These maynot make it on to the final finish. http://i65.photobucket.c...08/sandman/S3000002.jpg

Prety much as it stands now it is ready for the shell to be removed when need be. This will go to the professionals for a full blast inside and out and the body work rust repairs to top corner water channels and bottom of rear quater panel plus a couple of other little areas. Then painted in 2 pac the same mandarin red also the under carriage to be done the same aswell. Well thats the plan and still a while off yet. Chassis, suspension steering etc needs to be done first. Thats all after I finish whats at hand now with fitting the rear discs. Rusty upper tailgate and radiator support need to be replaced. These have been purchased. Picking up radiator support Today. This will be blasted and put in undercoat for now. A few more photos of the stripping down process looking at that pile of wiring I hope my memory holds up!!! All ends have been tagged. http://i65.photobucket.c...08/sandman/S3000014.jpg

A basic plan was prepared and written down before the process started. Parts to be used, motor to be rebuilt, gearbox the same, colour sceme of external, internal and chasis componets, suspension steering swaybars etc. Thing to be changed rear brakes, fuel filler cap etc. etc.
So as things take form some things change. Gearbox was done for practice and was never going to be used. Motor was going to be rebult. This had been done to a certain extent new gasket kit put through, new paint, alternator and starter thoroughly cleaned and painted it sections. Engine tidied up and repainted as well. These are now not going to be used. Oh well it was good practice. A new(second hand) standard bore block was purchased and will now recieve a 355 stroker rebuild and I am thinking tremec gearbox, as iI would still like to keep it manual(open to sugestions). I thought there is no point in pulling apart a perfectly good working standard bore engine to throw all the bits away for a stroker rebuild. So this will and the gearbox will be sold for further funding. Initially they were going to be kept and put in to a runaround ute or wagon. But that is too far away and they are no good just sitting there taking up valuable garage space. A rework of the plan and BUDGET will now be needed. It will now take even longer to finish as the budget is now larger. But no point in doing a half assed job. The process will continue.....

Hey bud, nice ride, got potential. here are some tips for making your images viewable on these forums. Instead of photobucket, try using imageshack. • Go to www.imageshack.us• click browse to find your image, then select it • click resize image • click host it • wait for new screen to come up • highlight the address that is next to hotlink for forums (1) and copy it • then paste the address underneith your text in the fastlane forum. It should appear like this hope this helps Cheers, Rusty B

You can do exactly the same with photobucket. Instead of posting the link to the picture, just use the image link instead.

I would never sell the motor and box from this van or youve thrown away half of its value as a collectable car put it in the back shed and sit on it just in case man
