pacemaker tri-y pipes part number is PH5310 for 1 5/8" primary or PH5320 for 1 3/4", thats what looks to be fitted on the car, and yeas they do get close to plugs

Hi Trev

You mention the thermo switch to control your fans in the valley.

Do you have any details of the switch and how its installed??

Do you have the fans coming on at the same time or seperately??

If the same time, does it cuase any problems with start up current??

In the middle of the same setup for the G.

The temp switch looks like a temp sender unit although it works differently. When the car gets to a certain temp (I think its around 70-80 deg C but not sure) the switch goes to ground and completes the circuit and turns the fans on/ When the coolant temp drops below this preset level, the switch opens contact and therefore the fans stop.

Each fan has a fused 12v supply thru a relay due to high current drain (approx 7 amps)and both come on at the same time. The power to switch the relay comes from a 12 ignition source, not accessories otherwise the fans would continue to run with the engine switched off.The relay terminals should be wired as follows:-



85- 12v power from ignition (low current)
86- connects to Temp switch (low current)
30- 12v Fused battery supply (high current)
87- connects to the fan +ve (high current)

Also, you should have no problem with startup cranking as long as your battery is ok.

In the ute, the temp gauge gets to 1/2 way and the fans come on until it drops back down to 1/4.

Thats great - I understand.

Where did you get the switch and how did you install it in the manifold??

I had a similar idea, but could only think to install it in the top tank of the radiator - the manifold would be better.

Most auto parts shops should be able to get one, I had a quick surf and found this site [blue][u]http://www.tridon.com.au...x?SG=8&S=35&G=483&P=2014
I was lucky enough to have a spare hole in the valley to accomodate mine. One thing you could get would be a thermostat housing cover with a hole in the top for a sender unit. Have to make sure the threads match up though. Anyway, shouldnt be to hard to source and fit.

They were the switches I was thinking of using. Namely the TFS107 - see how it has 2 temp ranges - I thought Id use that to control them seperately if I can find the correct connector.

Looks like I may need to stick with putting it in the top tank of the radiator though.

What size fuses did you use??

And did you use 40amp relays??

Thanks for the model number of the Pacemakers and the cooling fans and thermo switch. Did you have to modify the fan shroud assembly to fit a standard holden radiator and clear the hoses?

Have removed the existing engine and plan to do a trial fit of the new engine and extractors as the next step.

Two 20 amp fuses for two 30 amp relays (one for each fan) will do the job for you. The initial startup current for the fans is pretty high hence the 20 amp fuses. The dual temp switch would be a good idea, will be interesting to see how it turns out.


Phil,
I had to cut the original monting tags from the shroud and did trim around the bottom hose area a little bit to get the best fit. Then I used some small angle brackets to mount the shroud to the radiator. Pretty straight forward to do and looks fairly neat when done.

Well worth the effort in the end.

So the twin temp switch is actually a BMW replacement part. Amazing ly, its cheaper to buy genuined BMW than the Tridon replacement part!!!

Problem is the connector is also BMW, so I need to find a wrecker to get one as the connectors worth more than the switch from BMW - I kid you not (each of the 3 female pins is worth $19 and the bodys worth $10 plus some other bits & pieces)

I was only doing this becasue I was worried it would dim the lights when they kick in, but from what you and everyone else that runs them says. its not an issue.

If I do the dual temp switch Ill keep you posted with how it goes.

Trev with a 330hp turn key crate engine do you have to put the holdens power steering and A/C or can you use the serpentine accessary kit that's supplied with the turn key. I have a hj premier and would like to do something similar.
