Depends on the year of your car there was a change over in late 1969 our 69 GTR has a black wheel from new, but many rivet counters have told us that is wrong,

The first LC GTRs came with same wheel as the HK Monaro GTS - Timber

all lc gtr xu1s were fitted with the black comfort grip wheel sporting the stainless outer ring as per ht-hg.
As far as i know only early gtrs (69) were fitted with the fake wood grain.

The first road tests GTRs had the HT style whel, yet I have an advertisement that mentions wood. This is another case of change of specification before release.

All production GTRs had the black wheel and gear knob.

There are photos of wood wheels but close examination shows 100MPH speedo, indicating a 69 Brabham.

Thanks Warren so many rivet counters have always said oh that should be a woodgrain like your monaro, but as I said know for fact it had a black from new,

A few have said if you have the speck paint finish (grey and black) on your road wheels then should have a wood grain wheel
as this is a tell tale sign of 69 model, know road wheels is true but hesitate on steering wheel

What road tests are you referring to? All early GTRs had the timber grain HK type wheel on them. Modern Motor, Wheels and Australias Top Tests all have test cars with timber grain wheels on them. KLL-965, RHV-428 and RHV-429 are GTRs with these steering wheels. Quoting from the text in Wheels, February 1970 p.61 "At present the GTR is a soak for the left over Monaro GTS mock-wood wheels but these will be phased out and replaced by vinyl bound smaller diameter wheels in 1970." All the photos of these timber grain wheels are in cars with a 120 MPH speedometer dash.

Maybe the magazines mentioned have been mixed up with Just Holdens?

wazza wazza wazza, tisk, tisk find a corner and go stand there until D. A. Barnes tells you to go home.
It is better to thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
