can anyone tell me about replacement VH Commodore boddies?
I have a Commodore here that has been reboddied, and before anyone says "dont burn your fingers" consider this; The body shell was originally white, the Commodore is a VH SLE the colour is now blue and it was painted as a bare shell, every bolt, fuel/brake line and attatchment was not on it when painted.
compare to below At this time Holden had to supply replacement bodies because they were not strong enough and failed under towing condidions.
Brock Commodores were white SLE body shells, but in the VH it appears that they did not make them due to Holden not comming up to the required numbers to meet Homologation.
If anyone can shed some light on this it would be appreciated. mike81973

The comment about white Brocks is way off. The VH SS was required for homologation - the big valve heads of the VC Brock were only allowed to race under full SL/E weight - including the A/C and radio.
The VH SS was a lightweight version - no A/C, no radio, but had the all important big valve heads, and Holden had to build 1250 of them to allow the Group C teams to race with the big valve heads, and the lighter racing weight.
Holden did these. The VH SS is not a "Brock" or HDT model.
The VH SS was used as the basis for the HDT VH Group 1, 2 & 3. These were initally only available in one colour - Maranello red, as thats the only colour you could get the SS in.
It wasnt until later in the VH that they released the SS in Alabaster white as well - thus allowing white VH Brocks to be made (excluding the handful of VH ADPs).
The bodies didnt fail under towing conditions. The boot floors & rear quarters did. This was not enough to justify a replacement shell - they were repaired, and bad ones were rejected under the warranty clause relating to abuse.
And finally, if it was a factory replacement shell, then the body plate (correspondence plate) would have an 8 digit part number in place of the model line, and would have the trim combo code for whatever white was in use at the time (Alabaster) which is 1991.
True genuine re-shells using a factory shell are few & far between. I have personally inspected just 4 of them (VB-VN) and have photos of the details.
The VH SL/E came out nearly 28 years ago. A lot of things happen to cars in their lifetime, and unless you were present every step of the way, then theres no way of knowing what life it previously led, and what may have happened to it in the way if repairs or restoration.

Thanks for those comments, as you can tell Commodores are not my area of expertise, if we were talking LJ Toranas then it would be different, I have had them since 1977, and have them nearly worked out. Mike81973
