Thought id document the events that lead to my current, car-less state. A cruise with a few mates from Sydney's suburbs, up the Old Pacific Highway to this awesome little pub overlooking the valley at Catherine Hill. First cruise that our social car club had organised. For the most part, an absolutely fantastic day, and the Kingswoods were well recieved by the bikers at the pub. The end, well, see for yourself. Guess what engine's we have. Don't worry about the crashed cars. My mate collects wrecks and we keep people's cars running with the parts. Truck stop at start of Old Pac. Excuse the plastic, but we don't discriminate. Headland below Catho pub. F3. Tragedy. Caused by someone else. Couldn't pull the old girl up in time. Frame rails. Note tips. Hard to tell though with angle. And again. I want to drive it like this. Haha. Looks cool. Has inspired my mate with the red HZ to build a Q-rod. Edited by user Friday, 22 May 2009 5:07:54 AM(UTC)

Sorry about the prang looks like it was a nice car
On the fault front, if you run up the bum of someone its your fault, common knowledge, regardless of ticket or not, there is meant to be a certain distance you should keep, you know that your on your Ps and it should be fresher in your mind then mine
I am cetrtainly not defending Bosko, but just letting you know no need to get shirty at someone having a dig at you, outsiders looking in you must have been moving to bend it that much, I know brakes are not great in the old girls hence you leave a bigger gap
Dont worry comes with experience and years of driving
Hope you get the old girl back on road again soon

HQforme, ignore the smart ar5e comments, most of us here started out the same as you and had sh1t happen as we went along. Put it down to experience, character building and memory making stuff. I can also recommend Greg at Oz Wreck.

Look at this way, at least you caused a big traffic jam.
Youll be right.

Hey, i know youre right. I wasnt far enough back to stop in time. Its that simple. Im annoyed at Bosko because ive just wrecked my pride and joy and hes taking weak shots at me. Not because i think hes wrong.
I didnt cause the accident, but i should have avoided it. Its a valuable lesson learned by countless drivers every day. Someone on a straight stretch of road with thick but flowing traffic, nailed the brakes. Well never know why. It caused three, not just me, but three cars to have an accident behind.
The modern cars only had minor bingles. Just slam your foot down and ABS does it. I used the correct technique: i applied the brakes, then pushed harder gradually. I saw it coming, i tried, i just couldnt stop in time. I tried to turn out of it, but with the brakes on hard it locked up.
Where my inexperience shows is that the best way out was to get off the brakes and jump into the roadworks. It would have got a little hairy (road was very slippery where the work was) but i could have avoided the accident.
The red HZ was two cars back from me. Older, experienced driver. Tried to stop, couldnt, got off the brakes and pulled into the road works.
You always think youre leaving enough room until youre proven otherwise. I knew my car had relatively weak brakes, but you never realise how bad they are until you try an emergency stop, and fail.
Luckily we had a very understanding cop who chose not to issue tickets. Were still planning a lotto syndicate in honour of that fact! Haha.
Until this point id never even had a blind spot incident or locked a brake, even on my Ls.
In the days since ive been leaving more adequate room while using my brothers 280E Merc. It stops worse than mine! Trouble is, leave a gap that big and its filled by another car every two seconds.
Ill feel better one day when i see them jump in the gap then run into someone :-) |

Its all good guys, cheers. Ive found an entire front end, and i mean entire, on ebay, and snapped it up for practically nothing. Even if its half decent, thats a big win. Ill throw that on, get mobile again and then build a collection of good panels that ill prep and paint.
Been wanting a colour change for a while now. No time like the present! |

Cut the bottoms off your old guards about 12-18" up and keep them. There is no better rust repair panel than an original one.
