Hi Guys,

I picked up a set of Holden V8 heads over the week-end and hoping someone more learned than I can through some light on them.

They are presumably off a "black" V8 block with big valves and have a "B" cast into the end of each head?

I am assuming they are off a "black" motor because they are black and they came with an inlet manifold and Rochester carby and the seller thought they came off an engine in a Commodore his daughters boyfriend once owned.

Any ideas what they were originally fitted too?

Cheers,
Allan

P.S. And no I dont want to put them on Evil Bay and sell them! My brother is doing up a VK Group C replica aka The Big Banger, and I thought he might be able to use them!

If they are B cast I think they are VH and VK HDT spec heads. Normally found on HDT vehicles and also on some ex Police vehicles. Commodorenut will know exactly what had them. The cast date will give away what they probably will have come off. The inlet should also be cut out in the plenum and smoothed in the floor if it belongs to the heads.

Look between the rocker stands to find the casting date.
As Byron noted, only the VH & VK had B-cast heads, so if they are black (and theres no blue) then it would be VK.
VL also had big valve heads, painted black, on all the V8s, but they didnt have the B on them.

As far as the manifold, there are a number of variations. Ideally, if it was off the same car as the heads, it should have a part number ending in 955. Theres 3 variants of the floor & carby ports that all have the same cast part number.

Cheers,

Mick
