Its not a HX its a HZ ... Madeira red with buckskin vinyl trim. L32 with M40 is 253 auto and I dont believe any Sandmans have been recorded with a 253 + auto combination. It is unlikely this is a genuine Sandman... sorry

Hey Absinth i thought 253 and auto in a sandman was quite common? I have a HZ sandman with 253 and trimatic T bar set up which Byron has given a tick to.

Hainzy, I am yet to see a known Sandman with factory 253 auto (L32 M40). By known I mean one stamped XX7 or XU3 or with a 18V or other Sandman only trim code. 308 with M41 auto are not uncommon in Sandman although the majority of them are Overlanders. What are the details of your HZ?
If anyone has a known L32 M40 Sandman I would love to see a pic of the tag.
ally, do you have proof it was a special order 253 auto Sandman ie: build sheet or original purchase order? No offence but I wouldnt be paying Sandman prices for a HZ 253 auto van with a common trim code without absolute proof it is a Sandman.

Ok its your Mistral grey one, didnt know it was a 253 auto and it does seem to check out. Tyre placard is correct for a 10 cwt Sandman which in itself doesnt really mean much as they are easily changed but I tend to agree that its possibly all correct. Be buggered, first Ive heard of 253 autos in Sandmans, all the confirmed 253s I have recorded are M20. I would still like to see a XX7 stamped one or one with 18V trim to really confirm it though.
Cheers, Sean

No worries sean. Its the original tyre placard far as i can tell (as its all manky). Byron would surely have recorded a few? He did say to me in an email that it would have to be a Tbar to be a sandman, which it is. But i think he just meant it wouldnt be a column shift. Cheers mate.

Whats the built date mate? Your numbers arent far off mine. Also can anyone tell me if HZ sandmans came out with only GTS steering wheel or both GTS and sandman labelled steering wheels?

Sean, it doesnt need any more confirmation than whats on the ADR plate, ie 2000kg. That is the next best proof after an Acacia XU3 or XX7 body plate. I have 1 x L32 M40 Acacia XX7, its an early HZ ute. I also have 3 x Dandenong HJ L32 M40 utes, 1 x HQ L32 M40 ute, 1 x Elizabeth HZ XU3 L32 M40, 1 x Elizabeth HZ van L32 M40, 1 x Elizabeth HZ XX7 van L32 M40, 2 x Elizaeth HJ XX7 vans L32 M40. Rare as though compared to 4spd. _______________________________________________________ If we all had the same (good) taste, who would buy all the Fords? |

Is there any way to tell from a HZs id tags if it was originally a t-bar auto, rather than a column shift?
Cheers

I dont think so. If that van was a column shift originally itd be 1950kg GVW as itd be an option XU4.
