Hi All,
Was wondering whats involved in converting a UC to an LX, ie headlights / taillights etc?
Are the tail lights interchangeable, does the front guards and nosecone have to swap over?
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers
Matt

At front, the guards, bonnet, bumper, grille, possible rad support, youd also need the headlights, holders, surrounds, parkers. Harness would be different.

Have a recollection that the front crossmenber differs.

In side - the dash-not sure if the cowl is the same? UCs had the wipers on the column stalk so wiring need alteration.

Handbrake- LH-X had the foot parking brake (yucko) UCs had it between the seats. I have a vague memory (this is 30 years ago!) of seeing a UC sedan with a bench seat- so did the UC have 2 types of park brake?

Rear- different tail panel and rear quarters. Dunno about the back
bumper. Id guess that you could fit the relevent body sections from the LH-X into the UC.

At least the UC had the floor pan to suit the Salisbury diff.

So Id say doable, but Id be poring over every car I could to work
out the differeneces under the skin.

Why are race officals so afraid of penalising 888 racing?

Frame from the firewall forward is different.

Rear (boot) floor of UC is also different plus the cargo level floor in a UC sits higher.
UC bench seat has LH/LX park brake setup.
Youd be better off cutting the diff tunnel out of a UC and welding it into an LX body just like GH-H did to build the A9Xs. GM-H even sold these conversion pieces so L34s could be updated to A9X spec.

aint well all jumping the gun, or making a huge presumption here??? the original poster may just be asking the differences out of curiousity and not wanting to make up a replica, or maybe he is doing something sinister..............hmmmmmmmmmm, maybe...the mind boggles...haha

Thanks all for the replies.

Found a tidy uc hatch for a reasonable price and always liked the lx look better than the uc, (maybe an a9x replica!)

Thought if it was simply tail lights, headlights, grill and bumpers it might be worth the effort.

I looked into doing this a couple of years ago but wanted to keep the UC dash as I reckon it looks better than the LH/LX "Plank" and as a bonus UC full instrument clusters are a dime a dozen compared to the earlier ones.

You would need the LH/LX tail light panel and a section of the rear quarters for the wrap around tail lights. They are interchangable between sedan and hatch so that is easy.

The front is where you will run into hassles as the outer sheetmetal is obviously different but so are the inner guards and the aforementioned rad support panel. so its not an easy job.

Possibly the easiest way to get LH/LX guards onto a UC would be to cut the section of guard where it bolts to the inner guard off the UC guards and weld them into the LH/LX guards so that the earlier outer guards fit the later inner guards. But then you are still stuck with the rad support change.

If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you.

Here is the different part jim is refering to. i have just replaced a panel from Rares Spares. I chose to use theirs,as it was easier to modify the new one from rares to make a new one from scrap, i dont have that patience. you will see where JIM is saying the rad support differs
[img][/img]

i should have mentioned that the part i replaced is from rares spare to suit UC toran, it requires a fair bit of massaging to get it to fit the LH-LX where the battery trat panel butts against the rad support, i think you can just see it in the pictures

They also differ along the top where the guards bolt on dont they there is a step up in the "rail" for the back couple of bolts near the bonnet hinges as well as differences up the front. A simple comparison of guards when they are off the cars will reveal.
