Hi Guys,

Has anyone had any experience with a "Lokar" aftermarket auto shifter?

Are they cable or linkage operation?

They are available for Turbo 350 and 400s but how hard would it be to adapt one too fit a tri-matic?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Allan

Nice quality stuff Lokar, hope you sort something out as it would be worth it. Much nicer than that B&M Crap.

Best Regards Bob.

Hi Allan,

If your after a very good quality Shifter and on a budget, take a look on ebay U.S Motors, and search "Camaro Shifter"

A second Generation Genuine GM Camaro unit is ideal in a Holden, some even are set up for race mode and are called either a Slap-stick or His and Hers shifter, with normal Auto lockout, and a Ratchet gate for Drag racing. Ive seen some listed for as low as $5.00 US

One from a Z/28 will have the Ratchet Gate.
If the shifter is used in normal auto shifting mode - the shift stick is held in the far left position.
When pulled to the near right position - it engages in the ratchet. Ive got this model shifter in my Camaro, and they look and operate great.

This one in the link is an example of a rebuilt Slapstick and in prestine condition, hence the price, but there are many under $50.00 plus postage.

I have fitted a few Lokar shifters into Hot Rods and Holdens. They come as a kit and very easy to fit. For Holdens buy the shifter that screws or bolt to the floor of the car not the gear box. That way you can put it any where you like.
All the shifters I have fitted were a all thread rod linkage. It would be easy to fit one to a Trimatic as the shifter kit comes with different lenght rods and they are reversable. You will also need to buy the sender unit for the LED display. Bit of stuffing around to fit but they work well. Just wouldnt drag race with one. Easy to go into neutral.

Thanks: 2 times
Check the Lokar website, they cover a lot of the popular transmissions.

I like the look of the push pull cable one, plenty of great stuff there, might be a tad pricey though.
