Gday, Just wondering if there is any differences between the trimatics behind the 253 and 308? My 308 will be finished in a weeks time and im not sure on the condition of the trimatic that i bought with it, I have a number of trimatics from 253s at home that i'd like to use if the 308 one is no good. Thanks Nathan

The 308 has a better clutch pack. The trimatic has clutch packs that get more plates and a smaller spacer behind them as the application they are assigned for increases in power. In other words the 253 version will work but will struggle with the extra power being put through it. Not sure if the valve body has any differences between the 2 V8s. All in all get another 308 version or one of the 253 ones recoed as a 308 type.

If you have a look here http://gallery.oldholden...h/Gearboxs/V8+Trimatic/
The Trimatic Transmission Technicians Guide that is there gives you the part by part differences between the various types of trimatic transmissions. Cheers Paul.
