Fellas I need help.
I've got an EH Sedan with a 179HP Block in it and a set of twin Strombergs are mated to it, along with a set of Extractors.
What I want to do is put a 350 Holley on instead so I don't have to buggerise around with balancing the Strommies all the time.
Is this a good move? Or will I have to substantially jet it down so much that it doesn't become worth my while.If it is worth it, what would be a good Power Valve/Jetting combination??
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

If it was me id change it to a 186S setup.

ive got a 350 holley in my EH, its a 186 bored to 192. Its a hot cam, head work, extractors etc, and it goes pretty quick when it revs. But its a dog down low, i wouldnt recommend it if you are using it as a daily. 186s setup would be much easier to drive around town

59 jets, 6.5 powervalve.

or 61 jets if you dont care about fuel economy.

WANTED:
-2 14 x 9.25 CSA style Centrelines.
-2 x 15 x 8 Dragway centrelines
Old holdens brought on the spot, quick decision, cash paid.

Ive got twin strombergs on my worked 202. Balancing isnt hard or terribly often, but i do have a basic ari/fuel reader and vacuum gauge to make it easy.

Biggest problem is running rich which, as was explained to me, simply a function of having two carbs, therefore two power valves open under vacuum. Pretty much everyone has said to go to either a large single, or the 186S setup.

Ive heard and read often that the 350 is a dog down low, but can be made to work well with careful jetting.

the 350 holley isnt that bad on a 202.
but you need to tinker with it until you get everything right with jets and powervalve and acc pump setting.
what might work well on one 202 in a HQ, may not work so well on another 202 in a HQ as there are so many variables, paricularly diff ratio, cam and exhaust.

Also, the same motor and driveline and holley tuning in a HQ will need a different set up in an LJ for example, because of the weight difference, as the engine vacumme will change particularly under load, and hence the power valve size with a lighter car.

Experiment with powervalves in crements of "10" or 1.0
e.g. 5.5 to 6.5 then 7.5

sometimes when yopu talk to others, they are refer to powervalve sizes as "65" powervalve for example, as the decimal place is often very faint, and should be 6.5.

SOrry, also read original question, size for 179., not 202
Probaby go 57 / 58 jets
57 works well on a 173

Had=> HT - 3.55 gears - 161 - standard cam - extractors - 3 on the tree - 350 Holley- 57 Jets , out of the Box it bogged down low real bad!
Changed the Power valve to 4.5,yep, as low as 4.5, never looked back, ran real good.
Power valve choice will make or break due to "Bog Down".
Got a 465 - 253 Holley, jetted up to 60 with 6.5 Power valve was the best combination.
I tried all other power valves and reseted with the 6.5 but it has a slight flat spot with the 59 jets, this dissappeared completely with the 60 jets? (?go-figure?) ?

I used a 350 Holley as an LPG throttle body on my 202 originally and it was great. That is when I was running LPG.

I had a 350 Holley on an adapter bolted to a Cain 4 barrel manifold on my 179. It drove beautifully AFTER it was properly dyno tuned.

It was even better when I replaced the Cain manifold and adapter with a 186S manifold and appropriate adapter for the Holley.

The dyno tuner told me that the runners in the 4BBl manifold were too large to maintain air/fuel mixture speed and I was losing driveability and I really should replace the manifold AND the Holley with a 186S manifold and a Falcon Weber adapted to fit as that was the best combo for a Holden 6.
If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you.
