Gday readers/posters/experts/gurus
Just wondering how much approx would be the per hour rate for body restoration/panel and paint.
And if anyone has experienced this approx how many hours will it take for a car needing a lot of rust repairs and one with minimal repairs. I know one extreme to the next but i just want to get a rough idea of both scenarios.

Best case, thousands of dollars. Worst case, more than you ever imagined.
As an example, my mates just had his little RA28 Celica bare-metalled (outer body only), with tiny amounts of rust work and a simple, reasonable quality paint job in the original colour. He knew the guy, and the cost was still $3500.
Double that for a larger car with any amount of rust work. |

firstly i am option 1&2 (reader/poster) secondly i agree with the above ^^^^^^ if your going to pay someone to do all the work then it WILL cost thousands, i average panel beater will charge around $70 a hour, estimate how many hours you think it will take them to do, then times that by $70, then times that figure by 3 and youll be bettween somewhere close to nowhere near the price it will cost it cost me $4000 for my HQ to be resprayed, and i did all the bodywork myself, i also rubbed the whole car down to, to save the painter time and me money, the painter went over the car and fixed a few bits i missed, and then rubbed it down again to make sure it was done right finished job here http://www.fastlane.com....topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21481

LOL yeah so am i.
Really that much. So you could be looking at 30k+ for a full restoration. How come times the figure by three...??? e.g 70 x 200hr = 14k x 3 = 42k. I guess the more work you can do yourself the better.If theres rust that needs repairing what youd get that fixed by a expert and do the rest yourself.
Looks nice mate. I love the colour.

Where I work, which is a restoration factory, the rate is $88 per hour. A lot of Classic English sports cars end up with about 250 hrs panel, 200 hrs paint and 200 hrs assembly. 650 hrs at $88 p/h = $57,200 plus parts and materials. the times it by 3 thing is cause it usally takes 3 times as long as you think it would
my tip is, do as much as you can youself and then pay for what you cant do, ask as many questions as you need to and dont be scared to ask for help, you will be surprised with how far you get, this will save you huge amounts of $$$

a bloke i know bougt a new pulsar in 02. really looked after it. a few years ago some very big rice burner show was coming up and he took it to bonny rigg smash repairs for a new colour. this car never had a carpark dent on it and still cost $35K for panel and paint.

basically yeah dont kid your self, you get what you pay for. my hk coupe cost me $10,000 and it,s still in undercoat 95% of work has been done and that was at $65 an hour that was two years ago, it it was a pretty good shell to start with compared with some you see now passing hands on evilbay. pete.
