Gday all,
Can anyone tell me where this stuff is available from? I have a UV light but cant find the special dye. A friend used to use it for finding leaks on trucks but he cant remember where they got it and he hasnt worked there for years. Any help appreciated, Thanks. Russ.

big diesel and hydraulic suppliers i have used it for hydraulics alot at work and most be suppliers have it

hi russ, we buy a simalar product at work its called flaw finder, the stuff we use has 3 cans, first can is a cleaner, you spray it on and wipe it off to clean the area to be tested, then spray can number 2 (penatrant) on, it is a pink spray and penatrates all the gaps/cracks/holes, you leave it on for 10 mins and wipe it off, then spray on can number 3 (devolper) the cracks/hole/gaps ect appear quite clearly if theres a flaw in the peice being tested
i know this isnt the exact product your after but we buy this stuff from camerons welding supplies in ballarat, so maybe try some welding supply shops? i think the stuff your talking about is used by engine reconditioners to test for cracks in heads ect, so maybe ask your local engine builder too, they might sell you some or point you in the right direction

Russ, are you referring to the liquid which is added to the oil & then a UV light is used to locate the source of the leak ? If so, this is a type of dye similar to that used in the car a/cond industry to find gas leaks. We use 3 or 4 different versions of it in my workshop. Ill see if I can find its brand name for you.

we use a product supplied by kent moore. fluorescent oil additive. part number is j 23431-1.

daveyquey you are refering to a crack finder he wants a leak finder.
the stuff i used was not fluorescent just a blue die and great to put in the aprentices sweat band in his hard hat.
