Easy, the Chev diff cover has an "eyebrow" in it, Holden is just a dome. You can also pick by many other ways like the shape of the cover. Holden 10-bolt also has tapered axle bearings HK-HG Chev 10-bolt has roller bearings.
HK-HG also had a banjo and a 12 bolt available but the 12-bolt was available on HK and HT 1837 manual only. Not sure of ring gear diameter on the Chev 10-bolt.

No. Even the HGs sold overseas as Chev SS had Chev 10 or 12 bolt.
It might be a VB-VK Commodore 10-bolt. Does it have the upper control arm "ears" on the cast centre (for HQ-WB and A9X coil spring back end)?

The axle spine wont identify the diff because they are both 28-spline. Its about the only thing common between the two (the number of splines, not the actual axle). If its not obvious what centre it has, the other difference is the rear wheel bearings. All Holden 10-bolts use the smaller tapered bearings, while the Chev 10-bolts (in HK/T/G) use the larger ball bearings which fit back to FE. Dr Terry |
