Gday I'm thinking about buying another already imported 58 Chev but this one does not have the cowl tag but it does have the vin inside the door can I get it registered with just the VIN number?I have been told by a couple of rodders that I can get it registered and it's just the VIN number that matters is this true.

Also does anyone know a website I can do a Vehicle History Check for american cars for the 58 chev.Or because it has import approval does that mean it must have a clear title as I wouldnt think they would let a stolen car into the country.Because I just want to make sure its not a dud that will not be registerable.

you will need to contact customer service GM in the usa with the vin details for any sort of history. All imports will have to undergo inspection for reg contact motor reg for more details each state can differ.

If car got out of states and has import approval here it should have letter giving you permission to register they dont let cars out of USA unless you have clear title ask anyone who brings cars in they are fussy about that over there

Yes that is correct, all cars have a clear title that i have brought into australia. the tag inside the door is the one you need, will also have a chassis number somewere? I know on my 57 chevs its under were the body is...very hard to see but it should be on the paperwork with the car. Most states will give the vehicle a new 16 didit vin number. Good luck with your purchase, 1958 chev is a nice looking car. robert
