My HK Prem has tan coloured plungers in the front doors and black ones in the rears. The glovebox, handbrake & boot light switch plungers are all black, just seems odd to me.

Does anyone know the story behind the brown plungers?

I have never seen black switch plungers, AFAIK all OEM plungers were black.

Are they sun-affected or weather-effected, or do they really look like a tan plastic.

When the car was painted I pulled all the switches out and cleaned & polished them, the tan ones are definately an even tan all over and inside the legs etc.

I recently bought a pair of dark brown plungered rear door switch assys, they have white switch wire attached (HKs have white switch wire)and the seller put them up as rare HK Prem/Bro. My parts book lists different numbers for the front and rear plungers but does not mention colours.

My car is Brisbane built and I bought the dark brown ones from a guy in Qld if that means anything.

My mistake, the tan ones are rears as well.

Are they towards the top of the pillars?

They look very much aftermarket and setup to switch on as soon as the door is opened a mere crack. Maybe the car had an alarm fitted many years ago.

As with Terry I have never seen anything other than black plungers.

If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you.

The front & rear door switch plungers have a different part number because the front ones are longer. AFAIK the rears are just EJ-HR type plungers (short with a round tip).

Again, I have never seen a brown one of either type. It is possible that a local manufacturer in one state supplied some at one time which was different to what all the other factories received.

Jim5.0, that high-mount rear door switch is correct for HK/T/G Premier & Brougham.

From the pic & Im happy to be wrong, but it looks like they are at
towards the top of the pillar? If so that would be after market.

All the switches I have taken notice of have black plungers, my HK
had a bullet tip on the plunger, where all my HQs have had a
flat end to the plunger.

A tarted up Fairmont is NOT a legendary muscle car.

Differnt,i only see black ones .Ill keep an eye out tho. By gently twisting the plunger its possible to get the curtisy lights to stay off . Good if cleaning the interior and dont want the lights burning away.So i dont really know the story behind the brown plungers but i heard a rumour theres some at the mardigras- keeo

All HK T G Premier sedans, Premier wagons & Broughams had rear door courtesy lights as standard and the switch in the photo is in the correct position.

Just wondering if the switches were generic across the brands, this might explain the different colours. Same supplier to GMH and the other Aussie manufacturers, any Ford Chrysler or Leyland gurus watching?
