Greetings old wise forum.
Were there two types of dash colors - black or silver?
I have white needle instruments, but the facia is all black, not the flat silver I have seen in many reference photos.
Also the interior door panels are a faded black/blue, (trim code is 1898-19V) I was expecting it to be pure black, either interior panels have been replaced or the black has just faded to a motled blue.
Thanks in advance. |

Does it depend on car colour? 19V is slate black trim I think.

Black "Sports instrumentation" dash fascias were fitted to Holdens and Kingswoods with "Sports Instrumentation" fitted as optional. Premiers got woodgrain sports dash fascias when optioned.
GTS Monaro and Sandman got the silver sports dash fascia. This changed in the HZ when the silver sports dash fascia was dropped and only black was available. Cant remember if woodgrain was still available in HZ Premiers, will have to check.
Jim, 19V is black .... 18V is slate black

Thanks Absinth. The fascia on this HJ Sandman is black - could someone tell me if the Silver was a decal or was it painted on? I took the dash off a couple days ago, date on the back of fascia is 3/10/75 I am assuming this is date of manufacture or inspection. Is it conclusive that all HQ - HX Sandmans had silver dash fascias? Have any originals been spotted with Black dash fascia? http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/...v60AW_Gw?feat=directlinkThanks. My HJ LS was Silver. It was a factory GTS dash. Cheers, Pete. Old Holdens never die, they just go faster. Edited by user Monday, 4 January 2010 12:32:01 PM(UTC)

Greetings Blocker I have 5/76 HJ Sandman Van which i purchased new.It is fitted with a black fascia ,from the factory. This vehicle is an xx7 Brisbane build. I have wrecked out a 5/76 HJ Sandman van from Adelaide , Original in every detail including factory air which also had a black fascia. I also have an 11/76 HX Sandman van and this has the Portland Grey silver fascia. A friend owns a Sandman ute which also has the grey fascia. The console lids on both HJs have black crinckle pattern finish.I hope this will help.

Thanks guys.
I guess what we can draw from this is that HJ Sandmans came with silver or black dash fascias.
The beauty of factory ordered cars in the 70s are long gone. |
