Dear HK1837 Must of been 6 months ago you mentioned the 355s being actually 350's and I see in a recent post that you have mentioned this again. I have always been meaning to ask you the technical side of this because its interesting. so - could you explain why the "355" name came about and how its actually a 350. I appreciate the time you take to contribute to so many posts on this forum. Thanks in advance. Ray.

Easy. 350 because they are 350ci. Good try.

A Stroker kit is 350ci + .030 (for the rebuild) =355ci. The pistons of a standard 308ci when stroked with the crank(going down further)=350ci ,when you rebuild, you generally bore them out for the freshen up ,thus .030 makes up 355ci(roughly without going too technical, which I couldnt anyway..lol) :-) I hope this explains it but as Byron says 350=350.....355=355.it measures up to a number or not."crank stroke dependent"There are also other reasons why the engine would not measure up...cheers Jim in Adelaide...Hindsight is bad vision! Jim - thanks for the answer - so when a 308 is stroked it would always be with (at least) 30 thou extra bore - hence they always end up at 355. So, just for my understanding - HSV stroked a particular holden V8 (VR or VS) - would that have been an original 308 bore and hence 350 ci. HK1837 - my question to you was a genuine question - im not sure what you mean by "nice try" - if I have offended you, im sorry - its just that about 6 months ago someone on this forum ( I thought it was you) went to a bit of length to point out in a post that they are not 355 but 350 and Ive always wondered what was meant by that. Regards - Ray.
