Hi All, Hope you all had a good Chrissy and have a great New year. I have a small issue with the side windows on the ol Hq ute, They are very hard to wind up and down. I did of course fit new rubbers with the rebuild and the regulators and rollers are all in good condition. The doors did come from a HZ sedan. Can you tell me what is the secret to adjusting these to free them up. Im sure its something simple. I have tried to adjust them a few times but they dont seem to get any better.

i reckon they are a pig at the best of times. i can remember when my folks bought a new HQ in 1973, mum was ALWAYS whinging to dad how hard it was to wind the window up and down, and when i inherited the car way back in the early 80s, i then realised whats she was on about, and 2 of my mates had the came cars, actually 1 had a HJ and they were all different, but still bordering on the hardish side..so i dunno??? is there any cure at all??

I remember seeing a specific "Lubricating" product a few years ago for this purpose but I cant remember what it was called. Ive kinda been used to driving old cars with hard to wind windows so never bothered.

Silicon spray from a spray can works well on tight windows. Just spray it direct in to the rubber channel with the nozzle on the can. Cheers Paul.

Graphite powder wiped along the rubber edge that touches the window. Trust me, it works. Much easier to apply prior to assembly. Used it recently on an EH getting the full door rubber treatment. HQ front side glass is different to HJ-WB glass
so if you have it in the wrong model door, e.g HQ in a HJ door it will be tight.

but hjs where not out when we bought that new hq, and the window was hard from day 1..hehe I innovate, never imitate..

Loosen all the bolts that hold it in and lube everything up,then slowly do it all back up ,this will help with alignement.

Adam, The doors were off a HZ sedan, but the glass could be from a HQ as they are the original glass I had tinted before doing the rebuild. If there is a difference then this may explain why they are so tight. I still do have the glass from the HZ doors but I will have to compare and then get it tinted before using it.

x2 for silicon spray here. Ive used it plenty on sticking windows (electric). Ive only ever used graphite powder for ignition/door barrels but I guess it would work here too..
Havent tried lanolin - does it smell much??
