installed the 10 bolt in the HK today only to discover that
my tailshaft it 20mm too long.

can i just machine 20mm off my gearbox yoke or do i need to get the tailshaft shortened ?

Youll need to shorten the tailshaft I think!

Needs to be shortened by removing weld yoke, shorten the tube to correct length, then re weld the weld yoke back on. New unis & balance. Not a job to be done in back yard. Professional workshop is the go.

thanks for the advice. i re checked & it needs 40mm taken off so i`ll have the tailshaft shortened.

Ensure that you make the shaft short enough, front to back free play is necessary for diff movement. The shop you go to should be able to tell you what measurements are required. Measure with the car at ride height, not with rear axle hanging while body is on jack stands.

thanks mate. so if i move the stands to under the diff will this be ok for measurement ?

Yep, consult the guys that are going to build it for you. They should be able to let you know what measurements they need, point to point, from your car.
