hey guys when my vs gets hot sometimes wont even turn over most of the time i gotta wait for 10 minutes or so to let it cool down to start again ive changed the starter motor once already and it was going good but now its starting to play up again any suggestions

check your earths, maybe there loose or dirty, also feel the cable that runs from the starter to battery if it feel hard and crispy it may have became burnt and restive

thanks guys ill go right over it in the morning with more light and i been looking at it and ive noticed a crack in one of the coils that could be causing problems too hey

By not starting do you mean failing to crank over, or cranks over but fails to fire?

I had this issue years ago with my 327 powered EH running a standard chev starter. When hot, nothing at the starter until 10 mins or so. Auto spark picked it straight away. Fitted up a starter relay to ensure full power to the starter for cranking. 20 years now, same starter, no problems. Although different motor/car, the problem may lie there. Starter not being fed full power. Starter relay fixed mine. Maybe worth investigating. Auto spark should be able to isolate problem for you. Utility8  |

The VS has a starter relay in the fuse box above the battery.
You can take it out, and swap it for another one such as the horn relay, just to test it.
You can also bypass it to use the process of elimination testing:
1. Put the car in park (or neutral) and turn the ignition to "on"
2. Try cranking it to ensure the fault is still there.
3. Take out the starter relay and identify which pins are terminal 87 & terminal 30 (its moulded into the relay base).
4. Using a paperclip or wire, short those 2 terminals together in the relay base & see if it cranks.
If it does, then its upstream of the relay.
This can be a number of things:
1. Data from the keyreader (via the BCM) to the engine computer (not real likely)
2. Neutral/Park switch playing up - this can be tested by wiggling the shifter while holding the key down.
3. Ignition switch ready to fail - in a VS, its quite common now for the metal tab on the end of the key barrel to weaken, bend back, and eventually break off - leaving you stranded. A locksmith will charge about $50 if you give them the barrel.
If its downstream of the relay (is still fails to crank) then its only 1 wire - a purple one, which runs from the starter relay, into the engine harness, and down to the starter motor. Id replace the wire where it runs near the engine, as they do tend to suffer from heat issues.

i did have a auto sparky mate have a look at it 45 minutes after this problem happened to me but the bloody thing made a lyer out of me and wouldnt play up for him while it was hot.
the last time it happened to me i roll started it to get it going,
a roll start gets it going when it wont crank at high temp, does that help any one

Yes, it simply puts the blame on the starter motor & its circuit, but you need to narrow it down within that ciruit.

remote starter solenoid is a good fix. the wire which goes from your ignition through to the starter can break down, meaning that it doesnt quite carry enough load when hot to activate the starter. The remote solenoid protects that wire and also your main power feed too. __________________________________________ Keep the shiny side up, and the greasy side down.
