Hi all I have two HQ full length centre consoles and would like to know why they are different. One has a square recess on the top where the seatbelts clip in but the other has a much larger centre recess@ 30cm long. Are they specific to certain models. Both have flip up lids and manual gearstick boots. They are also different shape at the front .Thanks Ron

small hole is for cars with non inertia reel belts and large hole is for inertia reel belt cars.. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

the console with the square recess is for earlier HQ GTS and SS models from 1971 to 1972... the larger console is for 1973 and 1974 cars...

If that was true, then why do 1974 model Sandmans have the console with the small hole for the seatbelts???

Ive noticed a few 74 HQs with inertia reel belts but also still have the loose female end. "loose female" :-) . . . my 7/74 has the rigid end but some at the end of HQ production didnt I think.

Yes, Im with we wreck re: the brochure, you simply cannot trust them.
Did anyone notice the pre-ADR27 air cleaner on a supposed 1974 car in the same brochure.

if this was the case then what centre consoles went into statesmans and premiers and all the other hq vehicles that had bucket seat and floor shift...like i said above..small hole for floppy end seat belt which is generally non inertia reel ...you can even see the tabs to hold the buckles when you look down in there..and large hole for inertia belted cars....now we can get pretty frigin perdantic on this and start looking at when the adr for inertia belts came in or when they started optioning them with inertia which should of changed the console style but why bother....in all the 100s of hq i have wrecked in the last 30 years this is what i have seen in good original cars.. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

very simple...my 7/74 hq sandman does not have inertia reel seat belts so it gets the small hole console... going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |

if someone can 100 per cent prove without any doubt whatsoever that my sandman should have the large hole console then i would put one in it...BUT...i havent found the diffinitave answer to the question in all the years i have been doing this professionally..all the research on the console hole question in hq has always come back to what ive already said....and i didnt start the research yesterday.. going to church makes you no more a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car... www.classicozwreck.com.au |
