My thoughts precisely. The money that the RTA in NSW want for number plates is nothing short of extortion. Without wanting to sound too harsh, they are f&^*king parasites.
Yes I had a set of plates lined up for my Capri but didnt want to spend the one off of $150. By the time I was ready to spend the money on the plates they had changed to a $90 annual surcharge on top of my rego for them so the RTA have missed out because they wont get an extra cent out of me whereas they would have before. My parents have a personalised plate which cost a one off fee however if just one plate has to be replaced due to loss or damage they will be charged an annual fee for those plates from that day on despite already having paid up front for having that rego number. Parasites is too kind a term Terry.

In Wa there are all different structures what seems to be the most popular is aluminium 7 digit alpha or numeric or a mix they are $365 outright and the department of transport will store them for no cost until you are ready to put them on your car. You can also trade and sell them. I do see some custom plates and think what word are they trying to make and what a waste of money. But some are real neat. I am lucky Ive got the plates I want 71 XU1 neat and simple white lettering on a black background.

Cool topic.
I pay $130 a year for EFN 202, which speaks for itself. I dream of EFN 502! I wanted FKN 202 at first, but it seems its not allowed anymore, and EFN is more cheeky and fun. Everyone seems to like it.
And as our friendly racing team goes by Spoot Racing, the daily drivers have SPOOTU, and soon to come, SPOOTR and SPOOTD. As long as theyre in fun, plates are fine.
Im yet to meet a single person who can explain why the worst plates are on the crappiest cars? Jap crap with 2COOL4U or UNVDIS and theyre invariably on utter heaps.
I guess its the same mentality that makes them think their Pulsars are cool in any way at all in the first place?

Just had a look on the NSW RTA page, I have a slimline white plate with black text. I checked out having the same plate redone in white text on a black slimline plate... one off $400 fee, but I can have the same plate remade as it is for $50... burglars.
So to answer the question, whatever plate comes free with the car.
Reality is only an illusion which occurs due to a lack of alcohol.

I have the original plates that my HQ came with in storage waiting until she is back on the road. I think the old period correct-ish ones looks good on the older cars. Better than the new style in WA anyway, 1ABC123, blue on white background.

The plates I would like for my HG ute would be TPI 57. I beleive thes are taken. I have had EFI 57 (I sold these to my mechanic for his Chev). At the moment I have TPI 71, black background and white lettering - and typically I am still waiting for the car to be finished.
